Apple Watch Series 5 is the company latest smartwatch addition. It was announced during Apple’s fall event on September 10, 2019 and officially released today September 20. The Apple Watch 5 is a premium smartwatch with underwhelming specifications.
This Apple fifth iteration smartwatch packs alot of upgrades compare to the Apple Watch series 4 of last year.
The Apple Watch Series 4 brings about a new realm of design into the Apple Watch’s look, giving it a beautiful edge-to-edge display, more rounded corners, and other nice touches. Hence, the similar look between the Watch series 4 and 5.
Apple watch series 5 still comes in two sizes 40mm and 44mm. It offers a digital crown and touchscreen display to control everything
The Apple watch 5 is available in different material which includes aluminum, stainless steel, titanium and ceramic. It still maintain the Digital Crown, a button you can twiddle or press to scroll through menus or access other functions on the side.
Apple Watch Series 5 sports a LTPO OLED screen. The LTPO allows the watch to go from a fast, 60Hz refresh rate to just 1Hz.
The always-on display feature is a brilliant addition to the smartwatch. This new feature allows you to sneak glances at your watch and see information without having to explicitly raise your wrist. The display will still dim, but it won’t turn completely off.
According to Apple, the always-on display can save on battery life by dynamically switching refresh rate from 1Hz to 60Hz, depending on what you’re doing with it. The device also leverages a new ambient light sensor and other sensors to change the display brightness and it supports all watch faces, complications, and workout metrics.
Apple watch series 5 screen is bigger but flatter thus measuring a dimension of 44 x 38 x 10.7 mm on the 1.78 inches screen. The screen is protected by Sapphire crystal glass with brightness up to 1000 nits.
Apple added a new display driver, ambient light sensor and integrated power management circuit to enhance beautiful display experience.
The Apple Watch Series 5 comes with watchOS 6 pre-installed. watchOS 6 features a raft of new features, including an on-device app store for the first time, an app that measures ambient noise levels to protect your hearing, and long-term Activity trends.
The new Series 5 runs on a new Apple S5 chip inside: 64-bit dual-core S5 processor, up to 2x faster than S3 processor (includes W3 wireless chip). Apple Watch bands now include purchasable gold options including leather straps, something we haven’t seen since the original. The Series 5 includes 32 GB storage, up from 16 GB from previous models
On the inside of this smartwatch is a compass, which allows you to see which way you’re going. This feature uses GPS to work out your elevation, or height above sea level. Third-parties will also be able to use the new hardware within their watchOS experiences.
The Series 5 allows users to make international emergency calling, meaning their watches can connect to the respective emergency services, no matter where they are in the world. The feature also works with fall detection.
In terms of new health features, the inclusions of the watchOS 6 introduces various health benefits which includes cycle tracking and hearing health. The watch serves as a heart rate monitor and accelerometer (to track your steps) inside are exactly the same as in the Apple Watch 4.
The Battery life of the Apple watch series 5 has undergo some upgrade. Apple promises 18-hours of use from the Series 5, hence it is considered to be an “all-day battery life”. Apple also retains the same wireless charging functionality as the Apple watches before it.
