Dell XPS 13 (2019) Review

Dell has once again hit the market with its new world class laptop, the new Dell XPS 13 (2019)model. The Dell XPS 13 is one of the world’s most powerful 13-inch laptop.

Although at first glance the XPS 13 is very similar to its predecessor, however, it this 2019 model packs more upgrade in every flaws of the previous model.

The XPS 13 is sleek, clean, and almost bezel free laptop. It sports an anodized aluminum body with rounded corners and clean lines, hence, looking as radiant as morning frost. Thanks to super-trim bezels and 16:9 aspect ratio, it’s downright tiny compared to many similar laptops.

The laptop lid is nicely cut with Dell logo dominating the center with the brightened platinum silver finish that truly shines. On the left side of the laptop sits the power jack, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, HDMI 2.0 output, Thunderbolt 3 and a headphone/mic jack. On the right side you’ll find a full-sized SD card reader (increasingly becoming a rarity) and another USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, as well as a wedge-shaped lock slot.

One of the main changes in the XPS 13 2019 is the location of the webcam. The HD webcam has been moved above the 13.4-inch 360-degree InfinityEdge display screen and next generation Dell Cinema.

The XPS 13s design is not just stunning, it’s also durable thanks to being made from Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Thus, the screen is quite accurate, quick and smooth to the finger when using the touch screen.

Dell XPS 13 continued the company’s trend of producing the slimmest bezels possible laptops, thanks to its InfinityEdge design. The InfinityEdge display, enables a 13.4″ screen in an 11-inch form factor with an 80.7% screen-to-body ratio. It features 13.4-inch display screen which only gives small bezel above for the webcam and barely nothing at the sides. The XPS 13 comes with three display options: non-touch 1080p, touch-enabled 1080p, and touch-enabled 4K.

The display boasts the benefits of OLED technology, including “self-lighting pixels” which switch off completely to achieve perfect black for significantly higher contrast, according to Dell.

The XPS 13 also offers a wide color range (100% DCI-P3). And the 4K display paired with Dolby Vision content can deliver highlights up to 40 times brighter and blacks up to 10 times darker, Dell said.

The XPS measured an average brightness of 472 nits, higher than the 345-nit average.

XPS 13 comes with great colour profice. Thus, you can experience richer, more vibrant color and details enabled by Dell Color Profiles and take full advantage of HDR content’s superior dynamic range, infinitely deep blacks and dazzling brights thanks to Dolby Vision™.


Dell XPS 15 also features the 2nd gen MagLev keyboard which is quite comfortable for the best typing experience at workplace and home. The typing experience on the very thin 2nd gen MagLev keyboard is similar to Apple’s 3rd-generation Butterfly keyboard. Dell’s has better travel and tactile feedback and it’s easier on your fingers.

The XPS 13 is the first laptop built with GORE™ Thermal Insulation, which provides thermal conductivity levels lower than air in a thin, flexible format. While the Gore insulation directs heat out of the device, dual fans and heat pipes further lower the temperature of your XPS, enabling greater performance in a thinner form factor.

The keys are large and have generous spacing. And the back-lighting allowed me to burn the midnight oil without too many errors.

The 4.1 x 2.3-inch Precision touchpad is spacious, fast, responsive and accurate. Performing Windows 10 gestures such as a three-finger tap to summon Action Center or a three-finger swipe to access recent apps was near instantaneous.


The XPS 13 is powered by one of Intel’s new Whiskey Lake chips, the Core i7-8565U CPU . This processor is supported by 16GB of RAM coupled with 32GB of memory which is expandabe upto 2TB m.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. It can also and achieved 80 frames per second beating the 68-fps premium laptop average.

With up to new 8th Gen Intel® Quad Core processors, more cores means increased performance, even with multiple applications running. Plus, Dell Power Manager, engineered by Dell, allows users to customize their laptop acoustics (fan speeds), temperature and performance based on their preferences between quiet, ultra-performance and cool modes. For example, quiet mode is 50% quieter than the other modes. It also dynamically delivers the maximum power from your processor while monitoring and managing system temperatures.

Other features

Fingerprint sensor: The fingerprint reader integrated into the power button lets you log on with just a touch.

Voice-activated: The XPS 13 responds to your voice from up to 14 feet away, thanks to four built-in mics, Microsoft Cortana and Waves-enabled speech technology. Control playlists and access schedules regardless of background noise.

Leading-edge connectivity: The Thunderbolt™ 3 multi-use Type-C™ ports allow you to charge your laptop, connect to multiple devices (including support for up to two 4K displays) and enjoy data transfers up to 40Gbps—8 times that of a USB 3.0*.

Advanced docking: The XPS 13 can be used with Dell docking solutions, featuring single-cable connections for power, Ethernet, audio and video. Add the optional Dell Thunderbolt™ Dock for faster data transfers and support for up to three Full HD displays or two 4K displays.
