Dell follows the trend of the Computex 2019 while releasing its latest 2-in-1 laptops and gaming laptops.
The XPS 15 looks almost entirely like the previous year dell laptop design, however, there are some prominent changes compare to its predecessor. One of the the main changes is the placement of the webcam which has been shifted up above the screen.
The XPS 15 is sleek, clean, and almost bezel free. It sports an aluminum body with rounded corners and clean lines.
The XPS 15’s display is not just stunning, it’s also durable thanks to being made from Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Thus, the screen is quite accurate, quick and smooth to the finger when using the touch screen.
On the left side lives the power jack, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, HDMI 2.0 output, Thunderbolt 3 and a headphone/mic jack. On the right side you’ll find a full-sized SD card reader (increasingly becoming a rarity) and another USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, as well as a wedge-shaped lock slot.
Dell XPS 15 is the company’s first OLED XPS laptop to be launched. It features 15.6-inch display screen. The 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) OLED display boasts the benefits of OLED technology, including “self-lighting pixels” which switch off completely to achieve perfect black for significantly higher contrast, according to Dell.
The XPS 15 7590 also offers a wide color range (100% DCI-P3). And the 4K display paired with Dolby Vision content can deliver highlights up to 40 times brighter and blacks up to 10 times darker, Dell said.
The XPS measured an average brightness of 626 nits, higher than the 345-nit average
Dell XPS 15 also features an island-style keyboard which is quite comfortable for the best typing experience at workplace and home. The keys are large and have generous spacing. And the back-lighting allowed me to burn the midnight oil without too many errors.
The 4.1 x 3.1-inch Precision touchpad is spacious, fast and responsive. Performing Windows 10 gestures such as a three-finger tap to summon Action Center or a three-finger swipe to access recent apps was near instantaneous.
The XPS 15 is powered by the 9th Gen processor clocking a 2.4-GHz Intel Core i9-9980HK chipset with up to 8 cores and up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics. The processor is supported by 32GB of RAM coupled with 64GB of memory which is expandabe upto 1TB m.2 NVMe PCIe SSD and achieved 80 frames per second beating the 68-fps premium laptop average.
Thanks to all that high-powered finery, the OLED iteration of the XPS 15 can last up to 10 hours.
The Dell XPS 15 2019 also features Killer AX1650 networking hardware, which is built into Intel’s WiFi 6 chipset, delivering nearly 3x faster throughput than the previous generation in crowded environments.
The Dell XPS 15 for 2019 certainly addresses what was probably the laptop’s most glaring flaw, the webcam placement. On top of that, Dell did update the internals extensively in almost every category, not to mention inherited the great bits from its predecessor.
