Google has finally launched the final Android 11 beta the seventh and final preview of its next mobile OS version. This OS is focused on helping developers put the finishing touches on their apps as they prepare for Android 11, including the official API 30 SDK and build tools for Android Studio.
According to the company during the launch, this Android OS is updated with the Exposure Notifications System in mind, hence, users will be able to run Exposure Notification apps on Android 11 without needing to turn on the device location setting. This is the platform developed by both Google and Apple that allows official health organizations to create contact tracing applications for the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the Exposure Notifications System was created in such a way that, even with access to location services, it can’t use Bluetooth scanning to infer your location, though Google says other non-exposure notification apps will still be restricted from working like this.
Furthermore, this third Android 11 beta is aimed at fixing bugs rather than ushering in new features. Although, before the August 6 release of Beta 3, Google had issued version 2.5 on July 22 to fix some bugs. However, the beta 3 offer more security support for bug.
How to Turn on Android 11 OS
To access the Android 11, go to Settings > System > About phone > Android version and repeatedly tap on the “Android version” field. After a few taps, you’ll see a green circle in the middle with one smaller white circle inside of it and several smaller white (or black if your system theme is the light theme) circles surrounding it. This is actually a dial that you need to turn clockwise 3 times until you see the Android 11 logo appear as well as a toast message with a cat emoji. (You’re “turning it up to 11” in case you don’t get it.)
After this, you’ll have access to a new minigame involving Android 11’s smart home power menu feature called Device Controls. You can get started with this by opening the power menu (with a long-press of the power button) and then tapping on the three-dot menu to “add controls.” At the bottom left, tap on “see other apps” to find “Cat Controls.
Android 11 separates media playback notifications from other notifications, placing them instead in a dedicated section underneath the Quick Settings. This feature can also store up to 5 previous media sessions if supported by the app.
Similarly, Android 11 Beta 2 automatically placed all media playback notifications in the dedicated space below Quick Settings with no way for users to revert back to the old behavior. However, the Android 11 Beta 3 introduce a new toggle in Settings > Sound > Media called “hide player when the media session has ended in place of the media playback notification. This setting enable the toggle to hide media controls when the active media session has ended. Therefore, it can hide media playback controls from the unexpanded Quick Settings panel.
Android 11 Beta 3 also features every new emojis including Unicode Consortium announced early this year. in addition this OS version packs different buttons on its new power menu, including the standard row of power menu controls, contactless payment methods via the Quick Access Wallet API, and smart home controls via the Device Controls API.
Google also combine the power off and reboot buttons into a single “power” button, hence, tapping “power” shows the standard power off and reboot options with a new design in Android 11 Beta 3.
With all this upgrades from Android 11 DP1 to the Android 11 Beta 3, Google has offer every developer the last chance to make sure their apps and games are ready before Google starts rolling out Android 11 to businesses and consumers.
You can get Android 11 Beta 3 now via the Android Beta Program or download it directly. Google will also be pushing an over-the-air (OTA) update for those on previous builds. The release includes the final SDK with system images for the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4 XL, as well as the official Android Emulator.
